Fasting is the greatest healing method known to man. Medical doctors know that it is the fastest way to lose weight. Jesus could walk on water and bring the dead back to life but he needed to fast for 40 days. Hundreds of years before him, Aristotle and Pythagoras were doing fasting. Before them Moses did fasting for 40 days before getting the commandments of God. Also animals do it instinctively. Two thousand years ago there were no MDs, but fasting was very popular. That is why the bible has 74 references to fasting. The amazing thing about fasting is if someone does it only for the metaphysical benefits, they will still get the physical benefits. If someone does it for the physical benefits only, they still get the metaphysical benefits. The MDs ignore the metaphysical benefits and the Christians will ignore the physical benefits.

According to Ben Franklin, fasting earns you money. He said that a penny saved is a penny earned. When you fast, you save money by not buying food. People tend to look for complicated ways to heal so fasting appears too simple to them. But it is based on the knowledge that the body is always trying to cleanse itself and heal itself. You just need to give it a chance. Fasting gives the entire digestive system and liver a rest or vacation. Here are a few reasons given by Allan Cott, M.D. : “To lose weight the quickest and easiest way”, to save money, to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, to sleep better, to digest food better, to save time, to regulate bowels, to learn better eating habits, to get more out of sex and to call attention to social issues.” Fasting is the most effective way to kill unwanted parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi. The heart muscle is constantly beating and there is no way to give it a rest. Like the heart, the colon is always and constantly expanding and contracting known as peristalsis. Normally it never stops but during a fast, it stops. Then after a rest of at least 5 days, it works better than it ever did. John Tilden, M.D., who fasted thousands of people in his Denver center, said “I must say in all seriousness that fasting when combined with a properly selected diet is the nearest approach to a ‘cure-all’ that is possible to conceive: Profoundly simple and simply profound!

When you are eating, you are in control of what happens to your body. If you believe in God, then when you are fasting, then God is controlling what is happening in your body. Otherwise nature is in control of what is happening in your body when you are fasting. That is why fasting has been called God’s or nature’s bloodless operating table. It can provide every imaginable benefit including anti-aging.
